We're barely into a whole new decade, and the town of Mt. Shasta has been greeted by its first heavy storm of the 2020's. Area administrators and maintenance staff collaborated and decided at 5:55 this morning to cancel school for all the schools in the city of Mt. Shasta, including the high school for Thursday, January 16, 2020. School resumes at the regular time on Friday, January 17, 2020.
The main factor contributing to a full-day cancel and not just a late start was the forecast, which predicted an additional half-foot of snow before 4:00. Rather than keep families and staff wondering if it would end up being a full-day cancellation, administrators decided to use the emergency closure day already built into the calendar.
Because we are using our emergency closure day on January 16, school will be in session on Friday, April 10, 2020, the day originally designated on the calendar for this purpose. Please plan accordingly so that your child will be in attendance on April 10.
