Governor Gavin Newsom held a press conference on Sunday afternoon, March 15, and his declarations, along with our current inclement weather, have caused us to change our plans for students this week.
Superintendent Barnhart is closing both Mount Shasta Elementary School and Sisson beginning tomorrow, Monday, March 16. School will remain closed all week. The week of March 23-27, school is closed for our planned spring break. Additionally, school will remain closed on Monday, March 30.
If you would like the district to provide lunch for your child on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Monday (March 18, 19, 20, and 30), please call your child's school tomorrow or Tuesday to let us know. If we have to keep school closed past Monday, March 30, we will continue to provide meals for those families who sign up. Lunches will remain $2.95 per meal unless your child qualifies for the free and reduced meal program, in which case the lunches will be free.
At his press conference today, the governor directed all residents of California aged 65 and older to self-quarantine in their homes. This impacts our ability to conduct school operations safely, especially when we're impacted this week by below-freezing temperatures and snowfall.
School offices will be open tomorrow and Tuesday, March 16 and 17, so feel free to call your child's school office with questions or to sign up for school lunches. Teachers and aides will be hard at work tomorrow and Tuesday planning for continuing our students' learning as the school closure persists into the uncharted future.
