March 19, 2020

Hello families and friends,

The safety and well being of our students is of paramount importance to us, and as new information becomes available, we will adjust plans accordingly. We are committed to providing parents with timely information and support as we are able.  On Tuesday, March 17, the California Department of Education issued guidance for schools during these uncertain times, and this notice is to inform you of the latest developments around our academic plans for our students into the foreseeable future.

First of all, we are notifying everyone that although you will need to be on deck to pick up your child’s first distance learning packet or other learning materials from your child’s school on Tuesday, March 31, we will not be opening school with all students in attendance like we’ve been doing all year.  Earlier this week, Governor Newsom signaled that he doesn’t expect most, if any, schools to reopen before summer vacation. We all hope this is not the case, but we are hard at work planning how to continue your child’s learning experience all the way to the end of the school year if this turns out to be how we must operate.

On Monday, March 30, your child’s teacher will contact you with a specific time when you can come to your child’s school the next day (Tuesday, March 31) to pick up the first set of your child’s materials, textbooks/workbooks, and/or Chromebook.  We will be doing curb-side pick-up at MSE, and Sisson staff will utilize the three main entrances to the main building. We will try to streamline the pick-up of materials for those families who have children at multiple grade levels or even at both schools.

We are planning on this distance learning model to be in place through April 17, but we continue to monitor the evolving situation and will extend that date if necessary.  Beginning with the packet and/or online resources and by reaching out to you starting on March 30, your child’s teacher will let you know what you can expect academically in the weeks ahead.

Our school offices will open again on Monday, March 30, so please feel free to call if you have any questions.  We are committed to continuing your child’s education as we move forward together.
